Strong Partnerships Make Communities Thrive

Strong partnerships can make a community thrive even during difficulties. The Fremont Area United Way (FAUW) is a great example of this as they work to advance the common good by focusing on education, financial stability, health, and basic needs. Their vision for the Fremont area is to create solutions to community issues where they can make a difference. They partner with over 1500 individual donors and have approximately 37 workplace campaigns or small businesses that support them annually in the Fremont area.

Years of partnership with FAUW

These partnerships have developed and strengthened over the 75 years that the FAUW has been a part of the Fremont community. The funds raised help support specific programs at nine local nonprofit agencies, including The Bridge, Fremont Family YMCA, Fremont Area Habitat for Humanity, Rebuilding Together, Lutheran Family Services, CASA of the Midlands, Aspire for Greatness, Dodge County Head Start, and Care Corps’ LifeHouse.

Wholestone Farms is proud to be a partner who shares in the vision to make a difference in our communities. One of the many ways Wholestone Farms provides community service is by hosting an annual weeklong FAUW fundraising campaign at our Fremont facility. But for Wholestone team members like Zach Swanson, offering support to the FAUW doesn’t end after the five-day fundraiser. Swanson is Project Superintendent for Wholestone Farms and serves on the FAUW Board. As Wholestone’s Project Superintendent, Swanson leads projects on design, implementation, and improvement for operations of our business. He has been at the Fremont facility for over 6 years and has been involved in the FAUW since joining the plant team. He has capitalized on his communication, analytical and planning skills at work as well as through his involvement with the FAUW. Swanson shared that he “wanted to get involved with the United Way because of all the great aid and opportunities they can help provide our local community… They have proven to be a true support system to families in need over the past few years during major incidents such as the flood in 2018 and COVID-19 in 2020.”

Having fun to raise serious support. Swanson and the Wholestone team work diligently to make the FAUW Fundraiser a successful and fun occasion. The philanthropic week has grown to include prize raffle giveaways like big screen televisions, Yeti coolers, and Blackstone grills.  The fun continues throughout the campaign as departments compete to see who can raise the most funds with prizes for the winners, as well as Spin the Wheel events and a Pie-in-the-Face grand finale.

Teamwork is a core value at Wholestone Farms. Wholestone Farms team members have a rich history with FAUW.  Swanson is a current board member and there have been other Wholestone team members that have also served on previous boards in addition to WSF team members volunteering on projects with the FAUW like flood recovery work and food packaging events. One of the awesome things about community is that it allows us to welcome and help people in a way we couldn’t as individuals.  And that is the value of strong partnerships and teamwork.
